Most notably a Norwegian player claimed that the bikini bottom uniform standard was akin to playing volleyball in panties. A petition was created to change the official uniform standards. Ultimately, female volleyball players are now allowed to wear “short tight pants with a close fit” for their uniforms. Those against the use of bikini bottoms claimed that it was sexism and was objectifying women in sports. It may be beneficial for some female athletes to have more coverage when playing beach volleyball, but it also takes away some of the appeal of watching the sports games. Any woman that has worn a bikini bottom knows that it provides more freedom and movement than other restrictive clothing. Beach wear is more than looking good, it also needs to function well on the beach as well as in the water.

Regardless of the beach volleyball bikini bottom changes, bikinis still make a great option for showing off sexiness and athleticism when playing volleyball on the beach.
